WORKSHOP "Genuine Parchment" - material experience and professional playing

The possibilities of handling genuine parchment, techniques of separating, joining, colouring and other mechanical, physical and chemical influences are to be experienced and researched.

In order to familiarise ourselves with the properties of genuine parchment, after an introduction we will first try out what the material allows using a wide variety of hand tools. As we identify the areas of workability, interesting aspects and preferences usually emerge that might be worth following. In the next step, we discuss various design possibilities, questions of moulding and shaping as well as the surfaces or functions that a parchment can take on. Now each participant will focus on one or more aspects that seem important to them - we have time and the opportunity to delve deeper. Questions will keep coming up that we can discuss. At the end of the workshop there are usually whole series of object sketches. They can be seen as a starting point for new aspects of your own work and working methods and can be woven into your work. Or they can remain as objects.

The 5-day workshop is aimed at professional colleagues and students from the fields of product design, applied arts, crafts and art and serves as an introduction to the material "genuine parchment". The language of instruction is German.
